KLANG: A man linked to the capture of a dog named Rocky will be charged in court today, while a woman connected to the incident will face additional charges at two separate courts.

Both are expected to appear before Sessions Court judge Mujib Saroji, while the woman will also face additional charges before magistrate A. Karthiyayini.

The specific sections and Acts under which they will be charged have yet to be confirmed.

Rocky died during an enforcement operation in Taman Teluk Gedong Indah, Port Klang, last month.

Yesterday, Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar advised the public against holding rallies or demonstrations over Rocky’s death.

On Monday, lawyers Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali and Mahmud Abdul Jumaat said their client, Muhammad Shah Idham Nor Haikal Shaharom, 24, had been served a summons by a Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) officer to appear in court at 9am today.

Last week, Shah denied abusing or killing Rocky during an operation at Taman Telok Gedong Indah on July 29.

He said he was distressed by accusations following a viral video alleging that he had tortured and killed the dog, adding that he was at the scene solely to perform an assigned duty.

He had said he was living under extreme pressure and receiving intense criticism and death threats following Rocky’s death.

Rafique had said Shah was acting as a community representative after receiving a written invitation from the Jalan Sama Gagah Rukun Tetangga in Taman Teluk Gedong Indah to assist in an official operation with the Klang Royal City Council.

Rocky’s owner said she returned home that day and found Rocky restrained with a snare around his neck.

She claimed that she repeatedly pleaded with those at the scene to release the snare and offered to hand Rocky over, but her pleas were refused.

On Aug 2, the DVS lodged a police report and recorded statements from several people as part of its investigation into the alleged abuse of Rocky, which was captured on video.

The DVS said its Animal Welfare Team filed the report after receiving the carcass of a male dog believed to be Rocky, following the circulation of a video showing several people tying and pulling the dog by its neck while a woman pleaded for it to be released.
