I still love Umno, says ex-Kimanis MP Anifah
Former Kimanis MP Datuk Seri Anifah Aman says his love for Umno has never faded despite having left the party to become an independent.
“Do not misunderstand, I am not switching parties (kaki lompat).
“Umno is the first party I joined, there is none other. My love for Umno still runs deep.
“But at the same time, I need to be mindful of potentially offending other people’s feelings when I keep pushing for restoring Sabah’s rights in accordance to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63),” he said, reiterating reasons for his earlier decision to become an independent.
He said this when speaking at a ceramah during the Barisan Nasional’s candidate election campaign trail for Kimanis at Kampung Malawaring, Bongawan on Wednesday (Jan 8) night.
Anifah said at the end of the day, there was only one common purpose which is to defeat Parti Warisan Sabah.
“That is why I want to be with Umno on this stage.
“It does not matter which candidate (Barisan) put but what is important is what the party fights for, which is maintaining security by rejecting Sabah Temporary Pass (PSS).
“So even if I was not invited to talk in this campaign trail, I would still come to be with the constituents here.
“Even if Datuk Bung Moktar Radin or Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan did not invite me on stage for ceramah, I would still sit at the back as I want to be with the people here,” said Anifah.
The former foreign minister claimed that allowing PSS to be implemented will create a bigger problem when the pass holders who are women, started having offsprings in Sabah.
The Kimanis by-election will be a straight fight between Warisan’s Datuk Karim Bujang and Barisan’s Datuk Mohamad Alamin.
The Kimanis seat was declared vacant after the Federal Court on Dec 2 upheld the Election Court’s ruling, nullifying Anifah’s victory in the 14th General Election in May 2018.
Anifah had won the seat with a 156-vote majority, securing 11,942 votes against Karim’s 11,786 votes while another candidate, Jaafar Ismail of Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah, had obtained 1,300 votes.
Early polls will be on Jan 14 while the polling date is on Jan 18.
