Three arrested after motorcycle theft video goes viral on Threads

KAJANG: Police have arrested three men aged between 30 and 38 after a motorcycle theft in Hulu Langat was captured on video and went viral on Threads.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said police received a report on Aug 11 after a Yamaha 135LC motorcycle was allegedly stolen from a parking area outside a food outlet at Jalan Lagenda Suria, Taman Sri Nanding, Hulu Langat, at 3pm.
He said the motorcycle owner chased the suspect and, with the help of members of the public, managed to apprehend him.
“The arrest of the Malay man, believed to be involved in the theft, was then shared on Threads and went viral,” he said in a statement today.
Naazron said the district Criminal Investigation Division then conducted further investigations and arrested two more men, bringing the total number of suspects to three.

Initial urine screening found one suspect tested positive for methamphetamine, while the other two tested negative.
“Further investigations and follow-up action led to the seizure of five motorcycles reported stolen in Hulu Langat, Batu 9 Cheras and Wangsa Maju,” he said.
The suspects were remanded for three days to facilitate investigations.
Naazron said the case was being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code for motor vehicle theft, which carries a jail term of between one and seven years and a possible fine upon conviction.
The suspect who tested positive for methamphetamine is also being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug use.
“If convicted, the offence carries a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to two years, as well as supervision under the relevant provisions of the law.”

Naazron advised motorcycle owners not to leave their keys in their vehicles, even for short periods, and to ensure their motorcycles were properly locked.
He also recommended additional security devices such as disc or alarm locks to reduce the risk of theft.
