Soldier injured by fellow serviceman’s shot at Port Dickson firing range

KUALA LUMPUR: A soldier was injured after he was believed to have been hit by a shot fired by a fellow serviceman at a firing range in Sungai Menyala, Port Dickson, yesterday.
Negri Sembilan deputy police chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Nasharudin Mohd Shariff said police received a report on the incident, which occurred at 2.15pm.
He said preliminary investigations found that the victim was at the firing range with several other personnel when he was believed to have been hit by a shot fired by a fellow serviceman.
“The victim sustained facial injuries and was taken to Port Dickson Hospital for initial treatment before being referred to Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital, Seremban, for further examination and treatment.
“He is reported to be in stable condition,” he said in a statement.

Nasharudin said police had arrested a man in his 20s, also a soldier, to assist in the investigation.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 37 of the Arms Act 1960 for causing injury with a firearm without lawful excuse and Section 337 of the Penal Code for causing hurt by an act endangering life or the personal safety of others.
“Further investigations are underway to determine the actual cause of the incident,” he said.
