Negri Sembilan MB: Be ready for a state election

SEREMBAN: Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun has told the people of the state to be prepared for a state election.

Without specifying when the state election would be held, the state Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman said the current internal political turmoil was unexpected.

“I want the people of Negri Sembilan, the residents of this state, to be ready for an election. They are unhappy. Today, statement after statement is being issued. It is as though we are forced to accept it.

“But we are human too. I am human too. I feel hurt. I feel saddened. My comrades in the struggle are also shocked.

“What happened early this morning came without anything being conveyed to the other comrades. This is something completely beyond our plans or knowledge,” he said.

He said this while speaking at a PH leadership ceramah at Tunku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi today.

Also present were DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke, Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, and PH secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

Negri Sembilan Umno said in a statement today that it accepted the decision to continue supporting the unity government, but maintained its stance and decision to withdraw support for the menteri besar.

Aminuddin called on the state’s PH machinery to draw up strategies and make preparations to face any political eventuality.

“I hope everyone understands what is important — as party members, party supporters, and even fence-sitters. What is important is that we strengthen our machinery.

“We must strengthen our ranks. Amanah, PKR and DAP must be prepared in whatever way necessary. In Negri Sembilan and in Malaysia, we must be ready. We must work as one team to ensure victory in the election,” he said.

He also shared his disappointment that at a time when the global crisis was posing major challenges to the national economy, some had chosen to create political turmoil that did not benefit the people.

“With the global economy so uncertain today, we cannot continue as usual. Today is not about politics, politics, politics.

“We want to talk about how we can win the hearts of the people by easing their burdens, isn’t that right? That is what we should be doing,” he said.
