King donates RM2k each to 41 families hit by Kampung Teluk Jawa fire

JOHOR BARU: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, today contributed RM2,000 to each of the 41 families affected by a fire at Kampung Orang Asli Teluk Jawa.

The announcement was posted on the Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar Facebook page, with accompanying photographs.

The contributions, channelled through Yayasan Sultan Ibrahim Johor (YSIJ), also included disaster kits containing basic necessities such as electric kettles, rice cookers, foldable mattresses, t-shirts, telekung, and mineral water.

YSIJ managing trustee Datuk Avinderjit Singh presented the contributions at a simple ceremony held at the relief centre in Dewan Muafakat Taman Megah Ria. Johor Bahru Mayor Datuk Mohd Haffiz Ahmad was also present.

“This contribution is part of efforts to ease the financial burden of the victims, most of whom are fishermen or self-employed,” read the post.

Meanwhile, Johor Bahru district officer Mohd Masni Wakiman and the Johor Bahru District Disaster Management Committee (JPBD) chairman expressed gratitude to His Majesty for his concern and support.

“We and other government agencies will ensure the welfare of all victims is safeguarded and that proper accommodation is provided as soon as possible,” he said.

One of the victims, Uji Jumaat, 49, expressed gratitude for the contribution.

“Nothing could be saved, but with the assistance extended, at least we can continue our lives. Thank you, Your Majesty, for helping us,” he said.

Thirty houses were destroyed in the fire yesterday at the stilted village in Kampung Teluk Jawa, which involved temporary structures with wooden walls, zinc roofs, and wooden floors. — BERNAMA
