PETALING JAYA: DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng was questioned for an hour today by police over a media statement issued by the Pakatan Harapan presidential council on the emergency proclamation.

Lim’s lawyer RSN Rayer told reporters that PKR president Anwar Ibrahim had also given his statement.

“I am told that Amanah president Mohamad Sabu will be giving his statement tomorrow in Kuala Lumpur,” Rayer said outside the northeast district police headquarters in Penang, where Lim was questioned for about an hour on the statement made by PH on Jan 12.

“Lim has given his statement. We have given our cooperation,” he said, following the questioning under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

The PH statement rejected Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s explanation that he had advised the King to proclaim the emergency to counter the third wave of Covid-19 infections.

Rayer also urged police to act on a report lodged by Perak DAP leader Abdul Aziz Bari against de facto law minister Takiyuddin Hassan, who was reported to have said Parliament will not sit during the emergency.

“I hope police will carry out a similar probe on the report lodged by Aziz,” he said.

In his report on Tuesday, Aziz claimed Takiyuddin’s statement was against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s decree that Parliament can sit even during the emergency.
