BALING: Police have confirmed that the body found inside a car by the roadside here yesterday was that of a local man with a prior record involving 20 general and drug-related cases.

District police chief Superintendent Brandon Richard Joe also said checks revealed that the car had been reported stolen in Pendang.

He said police received a report at about 11.35am regarding an individual found inside a car at Simpang 3 Tawar.

Initial investigations showed that the deceased was a man in his 30s. Further checks revealed that he had a past record involving 20 general crime and narcotics cases.

‘Our checks also revealed that the Proton Wira used by the man had been reported stolen in Pendang. That case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code for vehicle theft.

“The vehicle has been seized for further investigation,” he added.

The body was sent to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital Forensic Department in Alor Setar for a post-mortem.

The case has been classified as sudden death.

It was previously reported that firefighters were called in to force open a locked car at after a body was discovered inside the vehicle. The victim was found seated in the front passenger seat of the car.

“A team from the Baling Fire and Rescue Station assisted in unlocking the vehicle and extricating the body.

“The Kedah Contingent Police Headquarters Forensic Unit also conducted investigations at the scene,” he said.
