Six held in Nilai for theft of telco tower equipment

NILAI: Six suspects, including two women, have been detained for their alleged involvement in an organised syndicate targeting telecommunications tower equipment.
The group, aged between their 30s and 40s, were arrested in a series of raids across Nilai and Mantin following a break-in at a telco substation yesterday.
District police chief Superintendent Johari Yahya said the arrests were made after police received a report at 7.15pm regarding a break-in at the Nilai Spring water tank site in Villa Desa Casia, Bandar Baru Nilai.
Johari said an operation was launched shortly after, leading to the arrests of the six.

“Tools and vehicles used by the suspects were also confiscated,” he said.
Background checks revealed that most of the suspects had prior criminal records involving theft, robbery, and drug offences under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Johari said initial investigations suggested the syndicate acted in an organised manner, dismantling components to sell them to scrap metal dealers for profit.
“The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for house-breaking. We do not rule out the possibility that this group is involved in other theft cases around the Nilai district,” he said.
