Smuggler flees into Golok River, abandons RM102k satellite devices

TUMPAT: A smuggler abandoned satellite internet devices worth RM102,000 and fled into the Golok River after being spotted by General Operations Force (GOF) personnel in Pengkalan Kubor today.
GOF Southeast Brigade commander Senior Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Radzi Hussain said the suspect fled by jumping into the river and escaped into Thailand after spotting enforcement personnel during the 10.30am operation.
Checks on the boat uncovered 21 boxes containing satellite internet devices believed to be Starlink kits, which are portable systems that provide internet access via satellites, he said.
Ahmad Radzi said the boat was towed to the Pengkalan Kubor marine police jetty for further action.

He said the seized items included a boat valued at RM25,000 and a Honda GX390 engine worth RM3,000.
The case has been referred to the state Customs department in Pengkalan Kubor for further investigation under Section 135(1)(a) of the Customs Act 1967, which carries a penalty of a fine of up to 10 times the value of the goods or RM500,000, and/or up to five years’ jail upon conviction.
