KUALA LUMPUR: Police are investigating reports that fugitive financier Low Taek Jho, or Jho Low, returned to Malaysia for a “secret meeting” linked to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said police had yet to verify the claims.

“We will investigate whether the meeting actually took place,” he said after attending the police’s Autism Day celebration at the Police Training Centre.

“We will issue a statement on any developments,” he said when asked to comment on reports about the purported meeting.

Sarawak Report recently claimed that Low, who has been on the run for years, attended secret meetings in Kuala Lumpur last year linked to efforts to resolve 1MDB debts involving China.

The Wall Street Journal recently reported that Low had allegedly sought assistance linked to Trump in an attempt to obtain relief from legal action in the United States.

Low remains wanted by authorities in several countries over his alleged role in the 1MDB scandal.

The WSJ report quoted a White House official as saying Low’s request was not currently on its radar.
