Gombak Setia assemblyman Hilman Idham accused the Selangor assembly speaker of presiding over debates in an authoritarian manner.

PETALING JAYA: Gombak Setia assemblyman Hilman Idham has been suspended for two days from the Selangor assembly, the latest in a string of disciplinary actions involving Perikatan Nasional (PN) representatives.

Hilman said he was slapped with the two-day ban after challenging state assembly speaker Lau Weng San’s decision to bar him from posing a supplementary question following his oral question during proceedings today.

The Bersatu Youth chief criticised Lau’s conduct, claiming it was authoritarian and detrimental to debates in the assembly.

“I am deeply disappointed with the dictatorial attitude of the speaker, who has prevented me and several other assemblymen from speaking for the interests of the people of Selangor.

“My question was not political. My question was about renewable energy, which is a very important topic as we face a global energy crisis and seek to reduce dependence on fossil energy sources,” Hilman said in a statement.

Yesterday, two PN assemblymen were suspended for three days for challenging the speaker’s rejection of a motion to refer Seri Kembangan assemblyman Wong Siew Ki to the rights and privileges committee.

State opposition leader Azmin Ali had accused Lau of abusing his powers by suspending PN’s Taman Medan assemblyman Dr Afif Bahardin and Kuang assemblyman Rafiq Abdullah.
