KOTA BARU: The 13-year-old girl who was seriously injured after being struck by a car driven by a teacher at SMK Tanjong Mas has been moved to a regular ward.

State health director Datuk Dr Mohd Azman Yacob said the victim, Zara Aftar Zamzuri, is scheduled to undergo a corrective procedure on her ear this Monday.

“Alhamdulillah, the student was transferred to a regular ward following surgery last week. Our next step is a skin graft or repair on her ear scheduled for Monday,” he said.

However, he noted that Zara is expected to remain hospitalised for an extended period to monitor her recovery and prevent infections.

Dr Mohd Azman spoke to reporters at the inauguration of the new Sultan Ismail Petra Airport (LTSIP) terminal here today.

“We have started PFA because this was a sudden, traumatic event. Our psychiatry specialists will work to ensure her emotional state stabilises,” he said.

In the incident last Sunday, Form One student Nur Fatimatul Hawa Mohd Azaudin, 13, was killed, while Zara was left in critical condition after being hit in front of the school’s surau.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azmir Damiri previously said the 1.50pm accident involved a female teacher who reportedly had accidentally stepped on the accelerator.

The car veered out of control, hitting the two students. One died at the scene from severe head injuries, while the other was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
