Bakar Quran: Ribuan penduduk adakan bantahan di Stockholm

STOCKHOLM: Ribuan penunjuk perasaan berkumpul di Stockholm pada Ahad sebagai membantah tindakan membakar al-Quran di Sweden.

Perhimpunan itu berlangsung di dataran berhampiran masjid, tempat di mana seorang individu membakar naskhah al-Quran pada 28 Jun lalu.

Menurut Polis Sweden, bantahan itu disertai kira-kira 3,000 peserta, lapor Xinhua memetik akhbar Dagens Nyheter (DN).

Pengerusi Persatuan Islam Bersatu Sweden, Mustafa Issa, yang menganjurkan protes berkenaan, berkata tindakan membakar al-Quran itu satu perbuatan bertopengkan kebebasan bersuara dan ia tidak seharusnya dibenarkan berlaku.

Protest held in Stockholm against Quran burning

Thousands of demonstrators gathered in central Stockholm yesterday (July 9) to protest against the burning of the Quran in Sweden.

The gathering took place at a square near a mosque where an individual set a copy of the Quran ablaze on June 28.

According to the Swedish Police, yesterday’s protest gathered around 3,000 participants, Xinhua quoted the Dagens Nyheter (DN) newspaper report.

Mustafa Issa, chairman of the United Islamic Associations of Sweden that organised the protest, told DN that the burning of the Quran, under the guise of freedom of expression, should not be allowed.

Malaysia strongly condemns a decision by the Swedish authorities to approve the provocative act of burning the Holy Quran on June 28, 2023, in Stockholm, Sweden.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said the decision by the Swedish court was not a progressive move in the efforts to enhance mutual respect and understanding for the betterment of humankind.

“The desecration of the Holy Book, while Muslims around the world are celebrating Eid Al-Adha, is very offensive to Muslims worldwide and violates the universal principle of respect and understanding towards all religions and their Holy Scriptures,” he said.
