Yong Peng residents hope development will bring youth home

BATU PAHAT: Residents of Yong Peng hope the 16th Johor state election will spur economic development, create quality jobs and improve digital infrastructure to encourage more young people to live, work and build their future in the town.
They hope the spillover from Johor’s rapid development will benefit Yong Peng and help reduce the migration of young people to Johor Baru, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore in search of better opportunities.
Yong Peng native Chew Bing Jun, 23, said more investments and the opening of factories could create employment opportunities and provide young people with stronger reasons to remain in the town.
“Many young people here choose to work in Singapore or Kuala Lumpur because job opportunities in Yong Peng are still limited. If more factories are opened here, I think the situation will improve,” he told Bernama recently.
He also called for better internet connectivity, particularly in newer housing areas, saying reliable access was increasingly important as communities became more dependent on digital technology.

“I just moved back to Yong Peng after 20 years of working in Kuala Lumpur and I do work like affiliate marketing and content creation, so stable internet is very important,” said the mother of three.
She said improvements in technology and communications infrastructure were essential to support trends such as remote working, online learning and digital businesses, while additional facilities such as printing centres and business support services would also benefit residents.
Zubaidah said she enjoyed living in Yong Peng because of its peaceful environment and believed better digital facilities could help attract more young people and professionals to return to the town.
Their views suggest that development in Yong Peng should go beyond physical infrastructure and focus on creating an ecosystem that offers modern and comfortable living while supporting economic growth.
