KUALA LUMPUR: Sixteen armed forces veterans will report for duty as full‑time wardens at eight selected Mara Junior Science Colleges (MRSMs) starting Wednesday (July 1).

Mara chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the appointments aim to strengthen student discipline and prevent bullying, marking the second phase of the recruitment programme involving former military personnel.

The pilot project began at MRSM Besut and MRSM Balik Pulau on Oct 18 last year.

“For this phase, 32 wardens will serve across eight MRSMs, comprising two men and two women at each college. Sixteen male wardens will begin duties on July 1, while female appointments will follow after screening,” he said.

Asyraf said 162 female applications were received, with online assessments held on June 25 and physical interviews scheduled for July 2.

The selection process is conducted by Mara subsidiary Glokal Link Sdn Bhd (GLSB) with the Mara secondary education division, Veterans affairs department (JHEV), TalentCorp, and armed forces’ psychology and counselling section.

Candidates underwent preliminary screening by JHEV and TalentCorp, followed by interviews at IKM Kepong on June 15–16 involving 147 applicants.

Verification includes veteran status checks, police criminal record screening, and cross‑checks against the child sexual offenders registry. Assessments also cover psychometric tests, military psychological evaluations, mental health screening, BMI, fitness tests, and panel interviews.

Shortlisted candidates will undergo final psychological and biofeedback evaluations focusing on child protection, misconduct risks, impulse control, and suitability for hostel duties.

“No appointment letters will be issued until all screening is complete. Only qualified candidates with integrity and clean records will be considered,” Asyraf said.
