Uproar in Dewan after PN man claims DAP only represents Chinese
KUALA LUMPUR: An uproar broke out in the Dewan Rakyat this evening after an opposition MP claimed that DAP only represented the Chinese community, citing a news report which has since been removed.
Ahmad Marzuk Shaary (PN-Pengkalan Chepa) had read out the news portal’s report, quoting a prominent developer as urging “Chinese political parties like DAP and MCA” to look after the welfare and future of the community.
RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) rose to accuse the PAS man of trying to raise malicious presumptions towards DAP by describing the party as only representing the Chinese community.
“DAP members comprise Malaysians of all ethnicities, including Indians like myself, and Malays like Bangi (MP Syahredzan Johan), not just Chinese.
“Please ensure your facts are correct when debating in this honourable house,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat during the debate on the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2024 in the Dewan Rakyat.

Wong Shu Qi (PH-Kluang) later said the article cited by Marzuk had already been taken down, before asking the Perikatan Nasional MP to get his facts in order before raising it in his debates.
Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul then asked Marzuk to submit the article to him for confirmation, after which he would take further action.
“I will hand it over to the home minister to investigate,” he added.
Marzuk had claimed that the report was still on the news portal’s website when he prepared his speech for the debate. However, checks show that the article has been removed.
