Negri Sembilan polls: PN announces 11 candidates, no fights with BN

SEREMBAN: Perikatan Nasional announced its 11 candidates for the Negri Sembilan election, none of whom will be competing against Barisan Nasional in the Aug 1 election.

The naming of the candidates was made by PN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.

Pas will be fielding five candidates, while new coalition component Parti Wawasan Negara will be provide four and Gerakan and the Malaysian Indian People’s Party one each.

Among the notable names is former Ampangan assemblyman Datuk Dr Mohamad Rafie Ab Malek, who will attempt to wrest the seat back from Pakatan Harapan.

Ridzuan Ahmad, who held the Gemas seat for Bersatu until the state assembly was dissolved, will not hope to defend it on a Wawasan ticket.

Other candidates include Wawasan’s Danni Rais (Klawang), Pas’ Mohd Fairuz Mohd Isa (Serting), Dr P. Kumar of Pas (Lobak), Wawasan’s Datuk Razali Abu Samah (Sikamat), Gerakan’s Lee Boon Shian (Bukit Kepayang).

In Mambau, Wawasan is fielding Erik Michael, while Pas’ Kamarol Ridzuan Mohd Zain will be the candidate in Paroi.

The other candidates are MIPP’s Sathes Kumar Nilameham (Lukut), Pas’ Abdul Fatah Zakaria (Bagan Pinang) and Wawasan’s Ridzuan Ahmad in Gemas.

Present at the announcement ceremony tonight were Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man; Pejuang president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir; Wawasan president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin; Gerakan president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau and MIPP president P. Punithan.
