BN’s Yusri calls for maturity in Ayer Kuning by-election campaign

TAPAH: Barisan Nasional’s (BN) candidate for the Ayer Kuning by-election has urged party supporters to conduct themselves with maturity and decorum throughout the campaign period.
Yusri Bakir said the focus should be on presenting constructive ideas to win public support.
“There’s no need for smear tactics or personal attacks. It’s unhealthy. We must show that we are a mature and respectful society,” he told FMT.
Yusri, who is contesting on behalf of the unity government, faces a three-way fight against Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Abd Muhaimin Malek of PAS and Parti Sosialis Malaysia’s KS Bawani.
A former lecturer at the Institute of Teacher Education, Yusri told his supporters that BN holds no animosity towards the other candidates.

“I’ve met my opponents. There’s no bad blood between us,” he said.
His comments come amid allegations that Muhaimin falsified his credentials to obtain religious teaching qualifications.
These claims were denied by PN secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan after a police report lodged by Perak Amanah Youth yesterday.
Yusri also expressed confidence over growing support from non-Malay voters, who make up more than 40% of the electorate in the Ayer Kuning state constituency.
“I can see they’re at ease with me representing BN,” he said.

Yusri, who once taught at SK Batu Tiga Temoh, is also counting on support from his former students.
“I’m also hoping that outstation voters will come home to vote. Even if it’s a small sacrifice, it means a lot for Ayer Kuning’s future. That’s my biggest hope,” he said.
If elected, Yusri said his top priority would be to improve access to quality education as a means of transforming the future of the local community.
