Police investigate explosive attacks on business premises in Kuching and Sri Aman

KUCHING: Police are investigating two incidents where business premises in Kuching and Sri Aman were attacked using fire or explosives yesterday.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah, who is also Bukit Aman Management Department director, said police were conducting an active investigation to identify the suspects and determine the motive behind the attacks.

“Police are analysing the materials used, reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, and determining whether there is any connection between the two incidents,” he said in a statement today.

He added that the cases were being investigated under Section 436 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum prison term of 20 years and a fine upon conviction.

Zainal said police were also looking into viral social media claims alleging that the convenience stores involved were selling top-ups for online gambling.

He said the claims would be thoroughly investigated, and appropriate action would be taken if they proved true.

“This includes applying to local authorities to revoke their business licences if investigations confirm that the premises were involved in illegal activities,” he said.

He also urged business owners to step up security measures and report any suspicious individuals or vehicles to the police immediately.
