Zahid tells Pas to turn words into votes for BN

BATU PAHAT: Pas should translate its words into action if the Islamist party is sincere about throwing its support behind Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates contesting in the Johor election, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.

The BN chairman, who is also UMNO president, said if Pas was sincere, it should translate those words into votes for BN candidates contesting in the election.

Zahid nevertheless welcomed the call made by a top Pas leader for Perikatan Nasional (PN) members and supporters to vote for BN candidates in seats not contested by the party in the Johor election.

“It is good if they support all 56 BN candidates contesting in Johor.

“I hope those words will be fulfilled and translated into action.

“We do not want it to be merely paying lip service,” he told reporters after launching the BN election machinery for the Parit Yaani and Parit Raja constituencies at Dataran Tanjung Simpang here today.

Earlier today in Kota Baru, Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man called on PN supporters to vote for Umno at seats where the coalition is not fielding candidates.

Tuan Ibrahim said the directive was aimed at preventing vote-splitting and strengthening Pakatan Harapan (PH).

“In constituencies where PN is not fielding candidates, we ask our supporters to vote for Umno,” he said.

PN is contesting 33 seats in the July 11 election, with half of the seats contested by Bersatu. Pas is fielding candidates in 11 seats, followed by the Malaysian Indian People’s Party (MIPP) with five.

Parti Pejuang Tanah Air, which was recently accepted into PN, is contesting the Gambir seat.
