KTM rider killed after crash with car in Kemaman

KEMAMAN: A man was killed after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into a car at Km 158 of the Kuala Terengganu-Kuantan road near here yesterday evening.
In the incident at 4.20pm, Zulkarnain Rawi, 51, who was riding a KTM 250 Duke motorcycle, died at the scene.
District police chief Mohd Razi Rosli said the victim was from Kampung Chendor Baru, Kuantan, Pahang, and worked as a lorry driver.
He said the victim was travelling from Bandar Chukai towards Chendor Baru at the time of the incident.

“The accident is believed to have occurred when the victim’s motorcycle collided with a Perodua Myvi driven by an elderly man who was travelling from the Kidney Dialysis Centre towards Bandar Chukai.
“Upon reaching the traffic light junction there, the victim is said to have continued riding while the traffic light was flashing green.
“At the same time, the Perodua Myvi emerged from the junction and the victim failed to avoid it before crashing into the car,” he said.
Razi said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe head and bodily injuries.
“The victim’s body was later sent to the Forensic Unit of Kemaman Hospital for a post-mortem, while the 78-year-old car driver, who sustained minor injuries, was treated at the same hospital,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a jail term of between five and 10 years, a fine of up to RM50,000, and disqualification from holding a driving licence for at least five years upon conviction.
