Immigration arrests 35 undocumented migrants, including 13 GROs, in Gua Musang

GUA MUSANG: Thirteen guest relations officers (GROs) were among 35 undocumented migrants arrested by the Immigration Department in a series of operations here on May 6 and 7.

Kelantan Immigration director Garry Belayong John Siki said the arrests were made during Ops Gegar, Ops Minyak and Ops Selera conducted around the district.

He said the operations, which began at 3pm, involved 24 enforcement officers of various ranks from the state Immigration Department’s enforcement division.

“A total of 52 foreign nationals were inspected at three separate locations, with 35 found to have committed various immigration offences, including 13 GROs,” he said.

He said the 13 GROs comprised nine Thais, three Laotians and one Cambodian

The others were men from Pakistan, Myanmar, Bangladesh and Indonesia.

All detainees, aged between 20 and 40, were taken to the Kelantan Immigration Complex for further investigation.

They are being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, Section 15(1)(c) of the same Act and Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.

Garry urged the public to channel information on undocumented migrants or illegal activities involving foreigners to the department.

He said action would be taken against locals found harbouring, facilitating or protecting undocumented migrants.
