Lorry driver arrested for drink-driving, suspected of holding 2 fake licences

SUNGAI PETANI: Police detained a man found driving a lorry under the influence of alcohol along Jalan Sidam Kiri here today.

Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan said the man, in his 30s, was arrested under Op Mabuk about 1pm.

He said the arrest was made by officers and personnel from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Kuala Muda district police headquarters.

“The lorry driver was found to have tested positive for alcohol consumption after an initial breath screening test using the Screening Device (SD) II,” he said in a statement today.

He added that checks on the man’s driving licence via the Mobile Card Acceptance Device also revealed that he was suspected of possessing two fake licences.

Following the arrest, Hanyan said the suspect and the empty lorry he was driving were taken to the Kuala Muda district police headquarters for further action.

The case is being investigated under Section 45 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of alcohol.

“The suspect will be brought to the Sungai Petani magistrate’s court tomorrow for a remand application,” he said.
