JOHOR BAHRU – Collaboration with Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) to face the 16th General Election (GE16) and state elections will be the focus of the Johor’s Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) this Saturday.

State Amanah chairman Aminolhuda Hassan said that other key topics to be addressed include preparations for GE16, particularly concerning the seats for the Puteri Wangsa state assembly and the Muar Parliamentary constituency, which are currently represented by the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda).

“Among the agenda items to be discussed and decided upon are matters related to collaboration with Umno or BN for the upcoming State Elections and GE.

“This convention will focus more on preparations to face GE16 under the theme ‘Strengthening Resilience to Face the Election.’

“In this regard, one of the issues to be decided is Johor Amanah’s readiness to discuss with our allies in PH about the Muar parliamentary and Puteri Wangsa state assembly seats, which were previously allocated to Muda in Johor as a courtesy,” he said in a statement.

Aminolhuda, who is also the Sri Gading Member of Parliament, said that the convention would also highlight issues related to the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Pulau Batu Puteh, a matter that has been advocated for a long time.

The Johor Amanah Convention, held at a resort in Skudai, would be officiated by Amanah President Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, who is also the Agriculture and Food Security Minister.

Previously, Johor Amanah had frequently called for the immediate establishment of a unity government in Johor, in response to the formation of a similar government at the federal level.

They urged that representatives from their party and PH should be part of the state government leadership, despite BN currently dominating with 40 state assembly seats.

In addition, Johor Amanah has proposed that Muda’s seats in the Muar Parliamentary constituency and Puteri Wangsa state assembly be returned to PH in the upcoming elections.

In the Johor State Election in March 2022, BN achieved a two-thirds majority by winning 40 out of 56 contested seats.

PH won 13 seats, with DAP securing 10, while PKR, Amanah and Muda each won one seat.

Meanwhile, Perikatan Nasional managed to win only three seats: Bersatu (two) and Pas (one).
