KOTA BARU: Perikatan Nasional (PN) is prepared to contest the Nov 14 Melaka election using the Pas logo if it cannot use its own.

PN election director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said the coalition had no objection to contesting under either the PN logo or Pas’ moon symbol.

“We will face the Melaka polls soon. If we cannot use the PN logo, we will use the Pas logo. We are ready and have no problem with that,” he said.

Sanusi, who is also Pas central election director, was speaking at the Himpunan dan Munajat Penyatuan Ummah (HIMPAK) gathering here today.

Also present were Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and Wawasan president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

Sanusi welcomed the High Court’s decision to grant PN a temporary stay against the Registrar of Societies’ (RoS) suspension and deregistration of the coalition, saying it would allow PN to continue operating as a coalition pending a judicial review.

“Alhamdulillah, the court has granted a stay on the cancellation of PN’s registration, which we consider unlawful. The court’s decision gives PN room to continue functioning as a legitimate coalition,” he said.

The High Court yesterday allowed PN’s application to stay the RoS action pending the full disposal of its judicial review, but did not determine whether the deregistration was lawful.

The ruling came ahead of nomination day on Oct 31, with polling scheduled for Nov 14.

Sanusi said supporters of “penyatuan ummah” (Muslim unity) wanted cooperation among the parties to continue regardless of the logo used.

“In Kelantan and throughout the country, those who support Muslim unity want to see this cooperation continue, regardless of the logo used,” he said.

He also expressed confidence in the electoral cooperation, claiming that the Muslim unity movement had previously helped defeat Pakatan Harapan (PH) in Johor and Negri Sembilan.

“Our cooperation under the banner of Muslim unity will bring down PH. All this will lead us into the 16th General Election as the government-in-waiting,” he said.

The remarks come as PN’s component parties prepare for the Melaka polls following the RoS decision to cancel the coalition’s registration on Oct 20.

The court’s stay allows PN to resume its political activities while the legal challenge proceeds.
