PN to discuss its future direction after PAS muktamar, says Takiyuddin
PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional will discuss its future direction, including Bersatu’s position in the coalition, after the PAS muktamar (general assembly).
PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said discussions among Perikatan component parties were expected to take place soon after the 72nd PAS Muktamar.
“Yes, in the near future. After the muktamar,” he told reporters after attending the final preparation meeting for the muktamar at the Pusat Tarbiah Islamiah Kelantan (Putik) in Kota Baru on Tuesday (Sept 1), reported Sinar Harian.
Takiyuddin was also asked about reports that Bersatu was seeking new allies ahead of the Melaka state election.
He said Perikatan was not surprised by the move as the coalition had heard about it through both direct and indirect channels.

“This is not something new. We have heard about it directly and indirectly.
“When Bersatu’s secretary-general said in the Selangor state assembly that the party and the Selangor government would be their partners, politically, that was clear,” he said on Wednesday.
Takiyuddin said Bersatu had also contested under its own logo and fielded candidates against Perikatan candidates in the Negri Sembilan state election.
Media reports had earlier quoted a Bersatu leadership source as saying the party was negotiating with several parties to form an alliance for the Melaka election as it did not want to contest alone.
Takiyuddin said Bersatu’s move could technically be seen as an indication that it no longer intended to remain in Perikatan.

“It would be very strange if they wanted to use the Perikatan logo in the next state election,” he said.
Meanwhile, Takiyuddin said he had yet to receive any update from the Registrar of Societies (RoS) after being called in for four hours of questioning last week.
He said he was still waiting for feedback from the RoS.
