Akmal Saleh urges Anwar to arrest, charge those accused of looting Tabung Haji funds
Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhammad Akmal Saleh has called on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to arrest and prosecute those allegedly responsible for ‘looting’ funds belonging to Tabung Haji (TH).

SHAH ALAM – Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhammad Akmal Saleh has called on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to arrest and prosecute those allegedly responsible for ‘looting’ funds belonging to Tabung Haji (TH).

Dr Akmal said the public has the right to know who the individuals or parties were that allegedly misappropriated TH’s funds.

“I urge the Prime Minister to arrest and charge the ‘people’ said to have looted TH funds. The people deserve to know who looted them.

“A Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into TH has already been conducted, so please reveal the findings and arrest those who looted the funds, because this issue has been raised since the Prime Minister was still in the opposition.

“However, until today, no charges have been proven against any individual. We hope the Prime Minister will arrest whoever looted the funds,” he said in a Facebook post on Thursday.

Sinar Harian previously reported that the government is prepared to release the final RCI report on TH in the near future, allowing the public to learn the outcome of investigations into allegations involving the sale of the agency’s strategic assets.

Anwar said he would review the decision to publish the report together with Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.

The Prime Minister, who is also the Finance Minister, said the decision to publish the report takes into account TH’s current strong footing in its recovery process, while maintaining that the public has the right to know the report’s contents.

He revealed that the Cabinet had previously agreed to publish the report, but because TH was still undergoing recovery at the time, there were concerns that doing so could alarm depositors.

The Tambun MP added that the government had appointed TH chairman Tan Sri Rashid Hussain and a new management team to rectify irregularities identified in the commission’s findings and recommendations.
