‘PBN’ coined to reflect PN-BN pact in Negri polls, says Hamzah

TAMPIN: Perikatan Nasional (PN) has coined the acronym “PBN” to describe its electoral understanding with Barisan Nasional (BN) in the Negri Sembilan state election.

Parti Wawasan Negara president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said the label was intended to avoid confusion among voters.

He said the name was merely a convenient way to distinguish the cooperation between the two coalitions, stressing that the partnership was driven by a shared goal of forming the next state government.

“We decided to call it PBN because people kept referring to PN and BN separately. The name itself is not important.

“What matters is our shared spirit and commitment to determine Negri Sembilan’s future,” he said after attending the Ceramah Gelombang Biru programme at Felda Bukit Rokan last night.

Also present were PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, former Bersatu vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee, Tampin Umno division chief Datuk Mohd Isam Mohd Isa, Gemencheh BN candidate Suhaimizan Bizar, and Gemas PN candidate Ridzuan Ahmad.

Hamzah said PN had agreed from the outset for BN to lead the electoral pact in Negri Sembilan, adding that both sides had set aside past differences in the interest of providing a better future for the state.

“Naturally, there were feelings arising from previous issues, but these can be resolved through discussions.

“That is why we met early, so that after this everyone can focus on campaigning and explaining to voters what we intend to do for the people of Negri Sembilan.”

Hamzah said growing support for the coalition suggested voters were embracing what he described as a “blue wave” against the ruling coalition.

“If the blue wave continues to gain the support of the majority of the people, God willing, we will take over the Negri Sembilan government,” he said.

Asked whether the PN-BN cooperation in Negri Sembilan could pave the way for an early general election, Hamzah said a victory by the alliance would demonstrate that governments could be changed through the democratic process.

“If we succeed in replacing the current government with PBN, it will give confidence to Malaysians that dissatisfaction can be resolved through democracy.”

When asked whether “PBN” would be formally registered as a political entity, Hamzah said the matter had yet to be discussed with coalition leaders.
