JOHOR BARU: BN today claimed support from non-Malay voters, particularly the Chinese and Indian communities, has strengthened as campaigning for the Johor election enters its final days.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the trend was based on his observations after campaigning across nearly two-thirds of Johor’s 56 state constituencies.

He said BN candidates and leaders had received an increasingly warm reception from non-Malay voters during campaign visits, attributing the positive response to the coalition’s emphasis on grassroots engagement rather than large-scale political rallies.

“We are seeing encouraging momentum, especially among Chinese and Indian voters. They have welcomed our candidates and leaders wherever we meet them during the campaign.

“That is why we have focused on volunteers going from house to house instead of holding many mega ceramah. We believe this approach is far more effective in reaching voters,” he told reporters after opening the Johor Entrepreneurs Gathering Programme at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre here today.

Asyraf said BN’s campaign machinery had achieved its first-week key performance indicator by visiting almost every household in their respective constituencies.

The second week, he said, was being used to revisit areas and reach voters who were unavailable during the initial rounds.

With polling day drawing near, Asyraf said BN would intensify efforts to win over undecided voters and those traditionally aligned with rival parties.

“We do not want to leave any stone unturned. Every voter matters, even those considered loyal supporters of the opposition.

“Our responsibility is to continue engaging them, persuading them and explaining what we intend to deliver if given the mandate,” he said.

He added that BN’s final push would focus on maximising voter outreach to secure every possible vote before polling day.
