JOHOR BARU: A 38-year-old man, who allegedly extorted and restrained a motorist in Taman Universiti, Skudai, has been remanded for four days until Sept 8 to assist investigations.
The suspect was also found to have nine previous records for drug and criminal offences.
Police are now tracking down another man believed to have been involved in the incident.
Johor Baru Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Radin Ramlan Radin Taha said police received a report from a 30-year-old woman at 12.49pm the day before yesterday.
He said the woman claimed that her vehicle had been followed by a motorcyclist in Taman Universiti about 11.30am.

“The suspect allegedly instructed the complainant to stop, claiming that his motorcycle had been hit by her vehicle and demanded compensation.
“An argument then broke out before another man riding a motorcycle arrived at the scene,” he said in a statement today.
Radin Ramlan said the woman then sounded her vehicle’s horn, prompting both suspects to flee.
Acting on information, police arrested the suspect in Taman Universiti and seized several items from him.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 384 of the Penal Code for extortion and Section 341 of the same law for wrongful restraint.

A three-minute, 16-second video uploaded by the Facebook account ‘community roda johor’ went viral, showing the alleged extortion and wrongful restraint incident.
The dashboard camera footage from the woman’s vehicle showed a motorcyclist riding alongside the vehicle before both stopped by the roadside.
The man could be heard accusing the woman of hitting his motorcycle, which she denied.
