Rafizi Ramli says will step down from posts if not re-elected in party polls

PETALING JAYA: PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli says that he is ready to step down from his party and Cabinet posts and focus on grassroots campaigning if he is not re-elected in the upcoming party polls.

In a statement, Rafizi said if not re-elected, he could return to being a leader at the grassroots level to campaign intensively for the party.

Rafizi said during his leave, he met with PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Pakatan Harapan secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

“During my discussion with Datuk Seri Anwar, I shared my view that the campaign strategy for the 16th General Election should be updated in line with the current public situation,” said Rafizi.

“My concern is that the current government campaign seems defensive and not as offensive as PKR once was when it was the opposition,” he added.

Rafizi said both leaders voiced their opinion that he should defend his position and remain in the Cabinet.

The Economy Minister also confirmed that he would defend his post in the PKR central polls and welcomed others to contest the position.

“I welcome the competition for the party vice-president’s post and will join the other candidates to take to the stage and strengthen the party.

If I am elected, I can continue to play a part in the party leadership as the deputy president and through the government,” he said.
