PETALING JAYA: Youth leaders of Amanah and PKR said the wings would give the planned rally by PAS against two ministers from DAP a miss, labelling it a cheap stunt.

Earlier today, PAS Youth invited its counterparts in Umno, PKR and Amanah to join a rally it would be holding this Friday to protest against “certain parties threatening the harmony of Malaysian Muslims”.

The wing’s deputy chief Hafez Sabri said the “Himpunan Bangkit Ummah” protest went beyond political lines and was aimed at defending the rights of Muslims.

He added that the wing would also be protesting against senior DAP leaders Hannah Yeoh and Nga Kor Ming.

However, Amanah Youth chief Hasbie Muda said PAS Youth should be magnanimous and meet the two ministers from DAP to get a clearer picture of the controversies linked to them.

“It is sufficient to meet and discuss cordially and seek an explanation. There’s no need for a gathering,” he told FMT.

Hasbie also labelled the planned rally a cheap political stunt.

PKR Youth said the planned rally was aimed at instilling fear among Malay-Muslims.

The wing’s secretary Omar Mokhtar A Manap said when PAS was in power, under the administrations led by Muhyiddin Yassin and Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the Islamic party did not champion such causes as fervently as when it was in the opposition.

“What PAS is doing is nothing more than a political stunt.”

Prior to the planned rally, PAS’s ally Bersatu had lodged multiple reports against Yeoh, the youth and sports minister, accusing her of attempting to convert Muslims and turn Malaysia into a Christian nation.

This was after Yeoh’s defamation suit against former inspector-general of police Musa Hassan over a statement he made was dismissed.

The former top cop had allegedly accused Yeoh of writing her book titled “Becoming Hannah: A Personal Journey” to make Malaysia a Christian nation, destroy Islam and the country, and place her personal interests above that of the nation’s.

On the other hand, Nga was slammed by PAS over a Christmas celebration at his housing and local government ministry, which allegedly involved some Muslim personnel.

A ministry source, however, said they did not force any personnel to attend the function, and that the carollers who performed at the event were Christians from East Malaysia while the songs were secular in nature.
