Pas hopes opposition will decide soon on PM’s offer

KOTA BARU: Pas has welcomed the opposition’s decision to consider the Prime Minister’s offer to join the National Recovery Council (NRC) and the Special Committee on Tackling Covid-19.

Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the party also hoped opposition leaders would make the decision soon

“Before this, we (politicians) were always tense and there will be quarrels with each other outside and even inside the Parliament sitting.

“This started since 2018. In line with the call made by the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong to see all political leaders join forces to restore the country, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has invited opposition leaders to join the committees,” he said, expressing the Islamist party’s hope for all parties to carry out the responsibility honestly and sincerely.

He was met after handing over the Jalur Gemilang to motorists at Jalan Bayam today.

On another development, Takiyuddin who was appointed as Energy and Natural Resources Minister said the first focus for the ministry would be solving the problems that burden the people.

“Firstly, I will visit areas without electricity in Jerai and some other areas later. The problems faced by the Orang Asli in Gua Musang are also on my radar.

“I will continue with the good policies practiced by the previous minister and will improve where necessary,” he said.

It was previously reported that Pakatan Harapan (PH) would consider Ismail Sabri’s invitation for the opposition bloc to join the NRC and the Special Committee on Tackling Covid-19.

The PH Presidential Council in a joint statement recently stated the importance of tackling the pandemic and economic downturn together, while not being just a rubber stamp for the government’s views.

In his maiden speech as prime minister last Sunday, Ismail Sabri invited the opposition leaders to join the NRC and Covid-19 Special Committee. Nst
