Bersatu shrugs off ‘surat layang’, focuses on people’s issues

SHAH ALAM – Bersatu leaders have downplayed the circulation of an anonymous letter allegedly targeting the party’s leadership, stressing that such tactics should no longer have a place in Malaysian politics.
Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, when asked to respond on the party’s responses to the contents of the letter, said the party would not be sidetracked by baseless claims.
He added that the younger generation and the wider population demanded a ‘new politics’, one that looks beyond personal attacks and instead offers solutions for the country’s future.
He said Bersatu, under the leadership of its president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will not respond or entertain the allegations.

“After all, it is just a surat layang. What we need to do now is focus on the rakyat, the cost of living, economic challenges and education. All Malaysians must get our act together,” he said.
He added that this would be the central theme of Bersatu’s upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) this weekend, titled “Bersatu menuju kemenangan” (Bersatu towards victory).
In the days leading up to Bersatu’s AGM, an anonymous letter has surfaced maligning its Deputy President, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin of plotting to unseat Muhyiddin.
The letter, which had been circulating in various WhatsApp groups of party supporters over the past few days, was said to be part of a ‘coordinated effort.’
