PETALING JAYA: A 42-year-old man died after collapsing while participating in the Garmin Run event in Putrajaya this morning.

Putrajaya police chief Aidi Sham Mohamed said the man was rushed to Putrajaya Hospital after fainting mid-run, Utusan Malaysia reported.

Medical officers tried to resuscitate him but he was pronounced dead at 6.54am.

“Preliminary checks found the victim had no history of illnesses,” said Aidi, adding that an autopsy was conducted at 1pm to identify the cause of death.

Police have classified the case as a sudden death.

The incident had gone viral on social media after several runners who took part in the event shared about encountering a man who fainted at the 19km-mark, of the 21km half marathon.
