Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay officially retires today after nearly 35 distinguished years of service in the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

SHAH ALAM – After nearly 35 years in the police force, Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIGP) Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay calls it a day on his distinguished career.

With Sunday (July 26) marking his last day as a police officer, Ayob Khan handed over the mantle to Special Branch Director Datuk Seri Ibrahim Darus, who assumes the duty of DIGP in an acting capacity.

The handing-over ceremony was witnessed by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) here today.

Ayob Khan was appointed Deputy Inspector-General of Police on June 23, 2023, succeeding Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, who was subsequently elevated to the post of Inspector-General of Police.

Born on July 27, 1966, in Kota Setar, Kedah, Ayob Khan holds a Master’s degree in Information Technology from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

He joined the police force in 1991 and began his policing career in 1993 with the Bukit Aman Special Branch as an Assistant Superintendent of Police, serving in the intelligence division for 15 years until attaining the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police.

Ayob Khan rose to national prominence during his tenure with the Bukit Aman Special Branch’s Counter-Terrorism Division (E8) between 2013 and 2019, where he led numerous operations that foiled militant attack plots and investigated high-profile terrorism cases involving the Islamic State (IS) militant group and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam

In 2020, he was appointed Johor Police Chief before returning to Bukit Aman in 2022 as Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department director.

He was later appointed director of the Criminal Investigation Department before assuming the country’s second-highest policing post in 2023.

As he bids farewell to the force, among the things he has raised is for the government to review and rectify the rank structure of the police top leadership to better reflect the responsibilities of senior officers and review of top police officers’ salary grades.

He also reminded the police force to tand firm for truth and uphold integrity, stating that true courage does not mean being fearless, but rather remaining steadfast in upholding what is right, even when knowing there is a price to pay.
