Five arrested after attack leaves man with fractured skull

MELAKA: Two men were injured, with one left in critical condition, after being attacked by a group of unidentified individuals while retrieving a motorcycle near a temple in Jalan Pengkalan, Kampung Pengkalan Rama Pantai early today.

In the 1am incident, the victims, aged 41 and 46, had arrived on a motorcycle to retrieve another motorcycle they had left at the location.

Melaka Tengah acting district police chief Superintendent Halim Abas said the duo were suddenly ambushed by a group of men armed with plastic chairs, helmets, and a wooden stick.

As a result of the assault, one victim sustained lacerations to his forehead and chin, while his friend suffered a fractured skull.

“Both victims were rushed to Melaka Hospital for treatment, with one of them admitted to the red zone.

“Police received a report regarding the brawl at 1.48am, and swift action led to the arrest of five local men aged between 23 and 34,” he said in a statement tonight, adding that two of the suspects had prior criminal records.

Halim said the victims did not know their attackers, and the motive behind the incident is still under investigation.

He added that the suspects have been remanded for six days until July 10, and the case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code.
