If you have ever wanted your car to speak for you, JPJ Melaka may have just the thing.

The Road Transport Department’s (JPJ) Melaka branch has announced bidding for its new “MEH” vehicle registration plate series, with the auction running from 10 to 14 July.

Results will be announced on 15 July.

Bidding is done entirely online through JPJ’s eBid platform at jpjebid.jpj.gov.my — no queuing at counters required.

For Cantonese Speakers, It Hits Different

Among the plates available is MEH 7, a combination that has already caught the attention of Cantonese speakers for reasons that need no further explanation in polite company.

On a car, it doubles as a mood, a statement, and, depending on who is tailgating you, a warning.

In Cantonese, mat chat (乜柒) is a colloquial expletive that roughly translates to “what the hell” or “what on earth” and is considered mildly vulgar in everyday speech.

Phonetically, “MEH 7” lands close enough to raise eyebrows — and grins.

Don’t Wait, Or Someone Else’s Car Will Say It First

JPJ eBid has been the department’s standard platform for number plate auctions in recent years, allowing registered users to browse available series and place bids digitally.

Interested bidders can register an account on the platform and submit their bids before the 14 July closing date.

For enquiries, JPJ Melaka can be reached at 06-251 4000, available weekdays from 8 am to 4.30 pm.

MEH 7, in particular, is expected to go fast.
