Feud With PAS Deepens As Two Senior Bersatu Leaders Axed From PN Leadership Structure

The increasingly bitter fallout between Perikatan Nasional (PN) component parties PAS and Bersatu appears to have escalated further, with two senior Bersatu leaders removed from key positions within the coalition’s leadership structure.
The latest casualty is Bersatu senior vice-president Datuk Mohd Radzi Md Jidin, who has been dropped as PN election director and replaced by Kedah Menteri Besar and PAS election director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.
Meanwhile, Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali has also been removed from his role as PN deputy secretary-general.
The shake-up comes as Johor and Negeri Sembilan head to the polls on July 11 and Aug 1 respectively, and follows PAS’ decision to formally end its political cooperation with Bersatu.
In a letter signed by PN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, the changes were described as necessary to comply with the coalition’s constitution.

The latest developments come just days after Bersatu reiterated that it would remain within the coalition despite its deteriorating relationship with PAS.
Speaking after chairing a Bersatu Supreme Leadership Council meeting at Menara Yayasan Selangor on Tuesday, party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin insisted that Bersatu would continue to defend its position in PN and contest both upcoming state elections under the coalition’s logo.
“Bersatu, as one of PN’s founding members, will continue to defend its place in the coalition, which has been well received by the rakyat and possesses a strong political brand,” he was quoted as saying by
PAS’ support for former Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, coupled with efforts to reintegrate his faction into PN, has further strained relations with Bersatu, which is understood to be unhappy with the move.
Hamzah now leads Parti Wawasan Negara (Wawasan) and has already been renamed as the Opposition Leader by PAS President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.
