Pas remains in PN despite breakup with Bersatu

KUALA LUMPUR: Pas will remain within Perikatan Nasional despite parting ways with former ally Bersatu.
“Alhamdulillah, the decision has been made, everyone can take it easy now,” Pas information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari told reporters upon leaving the party headquarters last night.
When asked if Pas still remains in PN, Fadhli said, “as of tonight, yes.”
In a statement released last night, Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang officially ended the party’s ties with Bersatu.
The statement noted the decision to sever ties were endorsed by the party’s Majlis Syura Ulamak on June 2 concerning the policy, religious considerations and public interest aspects of Pas’ political cooperation, based on the principle of Muslim unity.

He said the meeting also reviewed the current position and direction of Pas-Bersatu ties through reports, studies and assessments of the current political landscape.
This decision came amid growing tensions between both parties, prompting a reevaluation of its allyship and ending of a six-year allyship which formally began on August 2020 when PN was first established.
