Teen couple nabbed for abandoning baby at car park remanded three days

JOHOR BARU: The teenage couple arrested for allegedly abandoning a newborn baby girl at a surau parking lot has been remanded for three days to assist investigations into the case.

Police obtained the remand order after the 18-year-old man and 19-year-old woman were produced at the magistrate’s court here today.

The remand order against the couple was issued by magistrate Atifah Hamizah.

The two teenagers were seen covering their faces as photographers took their pictures at the court complex.

Earlier today, it was reported that police arrested the couple for allegedly abandoning the newborn at the surau parking lot in Taman Universiti, Skudai on April 11.

They were arrested in Taman Universiti at 2.51am today.

Johor Baru (North) police chief Assistant Commissioner Radin Ramlan Radin Taha said the case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for child abandonment.
