Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani yesterday pledged to “deliver that RM50,000 today” to the Guru Nanak Darbar Tatt Khalsa Diwan, Southeast Asia’s largest gurdwara.

INVESTMENT, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani yesterday pledged to “deliver that RM50,000 today” to the Guru Nanak Darbar Tatt Khalsa Diwan, Southeast Asia’s largest gurdwara.

Johari, who is also Titiwangsa member of parliament, made the announcement during the Vaisakhi celebration, attended by members of the Sikh community.

This follows his promise to donate the sum last year and confirmation from the government on the status of the gurdwara.

He said the government would also look into a request to install solar energy systems at the gurdwara to reduce electricity costs.

“I will look into how the government can support this request and whether it can be implemented as soon as possible.”

Johari added that Vaisakhi was not merely a festive celebration, but a reflection of values such as courage, sacrifice, discipline, equality and service to humanity.

“These are values deeply embodied by the Sikh community, which continues to enrich our nation.”

Johari said the Sikh community had, for generations, played an integral role in nation-building, from service in the armed forces and police to contributions in the legal profession, business, education and public service.

He also highlighted the Sikh principle of seva (selfless service), describing it as a noble value that continued to inspire Malaysians of all backgrounds.

“In a diverse nation like ours, occasions such as this remind us that our strength lies in unity in diversity.”
