MACC to summon whistleblower over video on alleged Sabah mining scandal

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will summon a whistleblower tomorrow to record his statement on a video linking a Sabah political leader to an alleged mining scandal in the state.
MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said this would facilitate a thorough investigation, leveraging on new evidence from the whistleblower’s statement.
He also dismissed claims that MACC was deliberately delaying the probe or protecting any individual.
“MACC’s role is solely to investigate, not to make decisions,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama during a press conference in Kota Kinabalu.
Earlier today, it was reported that rights group Lawyers for Liberty (LFL) planned to hand over purported evidence on the scandal.
LFL adviser and former MACC chief commissioner Latheefa Koya said she received the evidence from the alleged whistleblower, known as Albert, after meeting him yesterday.
The items included a USB drive and the original device used to record the video.
