Najib may see ‘light at the end of the tunnel’, says Zahid
KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has hinted that Najib Razak and his family have new hope, following supposed fresh evidence to prove the existence of a supplementary order allowing him to serve the remainder of his jail term under house arrest.
Zahid, who is also the Umno president, said both the party and BN have never forgotten about “Bossku” despite them facing various obstacles and constraints.
“There are some matters that can be shared openly and others that cannot. We deeply feel the weight of the situation (that Najib is in) and understand how challenging it is for him to endure.
“However, I am confident that there will eventually be light at the end of the tunnel for him and his family,” he said at BN’s golden jubilee celebration at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur today.
On Thursday, Najib filed an application seeking to adduce fresh evidence in the Court of Appeal to prove the existence of the supplementary order.

The former prime minister is seeking to rely on the new evidence to secure leave to commence judicial review proceedings, to compel the government to execute a purported royal decree issued by former Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.
In an affidavit affirmed in support of the application, lawyer Shafee Abdullah said Najib had no intention to delay his appeal hearing. However, he said, the new evidence was only recently obtained by Najib’s son, Nizar.
Court documents sighted by FMT revealed that the application was also accompanied by an affidavit affirmed on Dec 2 by Nizar, the Peramu Jaya assemblyman and Pahang state executive councillor.
In his leave application filed in the High Court on April 1, Najib claimed that the former king had during a Federal Territories Pardons Board meeting on Jan 29, also issued a supplementary decree allowing him to serve the remainder of his reduced jail term under house arrest.
The former prime minister said the board had omitted to announce the terms of the supplementary decree, and that the government was in contempt for not complying with it.

He wants the court to compel the government to execute the supplementary decree, if it exists, by placing him under house arrest.
On July 3, the Kuala Lumpur High Court ruled that he had failed to show he had an arguable case to warrant a full hearing of his proposed judicial review application, which led to his appeal in the Court of Appeal.
