Bukit Aman denies offering Nicky Liow plea deal

Police have denied offering former fugitive Nicky Liow any plea deals and insisted that investigations were carried out transparently, a day after the latter surrendered himself to authorities.

“No plea bargain was offered to any party in the course of investigations,” Bukit Aman commercial crime investigation department (CCID) director Kamarudin Md Din said in a statement.

He added that the probe was carried out in accordance with the law and “did not favour the interest of any party”.

He also said that the instructions to charge Liow came from the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

Earlier today, Liow claimed trial at the sessions court to 26 counts of money laundering under Section 4(1)(a) of the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001.

The 34-year-old businessman was accused of laundering RM36 million through various transactions which took place at several banks in Bandar Puteri Puchong and Ampang.

The offences were allegedly committed between 2016 and 2021.

Liow surrendered himself to Bukit Aman CCID yesterday after escaping the police dragnet following allegations of his involvement in the Macau scam syndicate last year. FMT
