Primary schools to see rotational Covid-19 screenings every Wednesday

The rotational Covid-19 screenings in primary schools will be done every Wednesday as part of the National Covid-19 Testing Strategy, said the Education Ministry.

In a statement today, the ministry said primary schools under its purview will be given Covid-19 self-test kits for the weekly screenings.

“We will be providing Covid-19 self-test kits to primary schools under the ministry to ensure that screenings are conducted based on procedures outlined in the School Management and Operation Guidelines 3.0.

“The rotational screenings for Covid-19 will be conducted every Wednesday during schooling hours, and the ministry will be issuing a letter of notice to the schools involved.”

Private primary education institutions registered under the ministry are advised to adhere to the guidelines.

Yesterday, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin in a press conference said primary school students below the age of vaccination against Covid-19 would have to undergo weekly screenings.

He noted the weekly screenings must be done on at least 10% of the student population, and carried out on a rotational basis.

Besides students, support staff and teachers who are part of these institutions will also be subjected to the weekly testing regimen.

According to the document, all costs will be borne by the institution – except for individuals who are eligible, but choose not to be vaccinated. These individuals must pay for the testing themselves. TV
