Ayob Khan named chairman of UTeM board

MELAKA: Former deputy inspector-general of police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay has been appointed chairman of the Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) board of directors for a three-year term.

UTeM said in a statement on Tuesday (Sept 22) that his appointment took effect on Sept 16, following approval from Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.

Ayob Khan succeeds Datuk Husaini Omar, whose term has ended.

The university said Ayob Khan’s extensive leadership and senior management experience in one of the country’s key enforcement agencies would strengthen the board’s role in steering UTeM’s strategic direction and long-term development.

“UTeM believes that his vast experience, integrity and high-level strategic management capabilities will enable him to lead the board in navigating the challenges ahead,” the statement read.

Ayob Khan holds a master’s degree in information technology from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and served on the force for almost 35 years.

He was Johor police chief from 2020 to 2022 before serving as director of the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department and later the Criminal Investigation Department.

He was appointed Deputy Inspector-General of Police in 2023 and retired in July.

UTeM added that Ayob Khan’s appointment was expected to bring a new dimension to its strategic leadership, particularly in strengthening governance, expanding strategic partnerships and advancing its role in the country’s technical education sector.
