No by-election for Subang after Wong Chen’s resignation – EC
KUALA LUMPUR: No by-election will be held for the Subang parliamentary seat following the resignation of PKR’s Wong Chen as its MP, the Election Commission (EC) confirmed.
In a statement posted on Facebook, EC chairman Datuk Sri Ramlan Harun said the commission was notified about the seat’s vacancy by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul yesterday.
“Based on Article 54(1) of the Federal Constitution, the Dewan Rakyat speaker has informed the EC that there is no need to fill the casual vacancy.
“Accordingly, no by-election for the P.104 Subang parliamentary constituency will be held,” it said.
Earlier today, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul notified the EC of the vacancy of the Subang parliamentary.
Johari said Wong had submitted a letter relinquishing his position as Subang MP, with the resignation taking effect at 5pm yesterday.
