Noh Omar hopes BN-PN formula sparks ‘blue wave’ in Selangor

SHAH ALAM: Former Selangor Umno chief Noh Omar hopes the cooperation between Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional in Negeri Sembilan will spark a political “wave” that spreads to Selangor and eventually helps the two coalitions capture Putrajaya in the 16th general election.

The former Umno Supreme Council member said the arrangement, which avoids direct clashes between Umno and PAS candidates, would strengthen support for both parties in Malay-majority constituencies.

“The ‘blue wave’ began in Johor and is now moving to Negeri Sembilan. I am confident this formula will also have a positive impact in Selangor and, God willing, by GE16, BN and PN will return to power,” he said at the Shah Alam Umno Youth delegates’ meeting here today.

Noh said both Umno and PAS shared common objectives, with Umno championing Malay interests, and PAS fighting for Islam, and that the two causes were closely intertwined.

He said three-cornered contests involving Umno, PAS and Pakatan Harapan would only benefit PH, pointing to former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin’s defeat in Sungai Buloh in the 15th general election as an example.

He said he had long advocated cooperation between Umno and PAS, and had personally met PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang in 2018 to urge both parties not to contest against one another in Selangor.

Opposition to Umno-DAP ties

Noh said his previous departure from Umno stemmed from the party’s cooperation with DAP, and he had always maintained that he would return if the alliance came to an end.

“If Umno severs ties with DAP in the morning, I will return to the party by noon. That has always been my principle,” he said.

Noh, who was sacked by Umno in January 2023 following a violation of party discipline during GE15, joined Bersatu in July 2024, and was appointed to its Supreme Council in early 2025.

He resigned from Bersatu’s leadership in February following the sacking of 17 party leaders. On June 7, he revealed that he had quit Bersatu and rejoined Umno under a special initiative to welcome back former members.
